About VMR Thursday Island
VMR Thursday Island operates from Thursday Island in the Torres Straits.
We do not maintain a radio watch.
For assistance, VTS in partnership with other Squadrons maintain a 24hr listening watch on VHF Channel 16.
If in phone range the Qld Police Service should be your first point of contact.
Masters should be advised that a fee applies to operations that are not of a life threatening nature.
Operational Information
VMR Thursday Island operates an 8m NAIAD Rescue vessel with a range of approximately 250 nautical miles.
This vessel is named ‘T.I Rescue’ and is equipped with VHF, and 27MHz radios.
Launch time is approximately 1 hour from Thursday Island.
